Ukraine still does not use almost 1 GW of capacity of cogeneration and gas turbine plants transferred by international partners. This volume can be compared with the capacity of one nuclear power unit, and its launch could strengthen the power system in the face of electricity shortages

"Еспресо" was told about this on the air by Вікторія Войціцька, a member of the supervisory board of the independent analytical center "We Build Ukraine", people's deputy of VIII convocation and secretary of Комітету Верховної Ради on fuel and energy complex.

According to her, Ukraine needs the development of decentralized generation, which will allow to produce electricity closer to consumers and reduce dependence on a centralized power system. At the same time, the implementation of the relevant program, which was previously announced by President Володимир Зеленський, is still not actively promoted.

"Є рішення у вигляді реалізації програми децентралізованої генерації електроенергії. Але тут, я вам скажу, у нас і кінь не валявся в конкретно цьому питанні",

- said Voytsitska.

She said that international partners have transferred to Ukraine equipment for the production of heat and electricity with a total capacity of almost 1 GW. We are talking about cogeneration and gas turbine plants of various types.

"Станом на зараз у нас майже 1 ГВт потужності, і це можна порівняти з одним блоком атомної станції, наприклад, Запорізької АЕС, яка окупована. Або це половина обсягу електроенергії, який ми імпортуємо, коли її не вистачає",

- explained Voytsy.

At the same time, according to her, the transferred capacities are still not connected to the Ukrainian energy network, and therefore the country cannot use them to cover the needs of consumers.

Voitsitskaya also noted that in the absence of electricity, people are forced to rely on their own power sources - in particular diesel generators or solar panels with storage devices. However, due to adverse weather conditions, solar generation cannot be a full-fledged alternative.
