After the release of the developer of ground-based robotic complexes Аслана Хакімова human rights defenders seek protection of Azerbaijani oppositionist Бахруза Гасанлі, who faces imprisonment and torture at home
This was told on the air by Espreso human rights activist and director of the charitable foundation "Людина і право" Борис Захаров.
According to him, the Аслана Хакімова case ended positively due to public publicity, support of civil society and legal actions of protection. In particular, the European Court of Human Rights applied urgent measures that prohibited the extradition of a man, and Ukrainian courts made decisions in his favor.
"Ця історія наразі має хороший кінець. І тут я хотів би привітати всіх, зокрема українське правосуддя, яке показало, що воно взагалі є в Україні",
The human rights activist explained that the deportation of Khakim even through a third country could lead to his entry into Russia, where the man was sentenced to death. 20 years of imprisonment on charges of terrorism and financing of terrorism.
According to Zakharov, torture or forced work on the Russian military-industrial complex could wait for him there. At the same time, Khakimov is developing ground-based robotic complexes for ЗСУ.
Захаров called the actions of Ukrainian state bodies against such foreigners a threat not only to human rights, but also to the defense of Ukraine.
At the same time, according to him, there remains another resonant case - Azerbaijani Бахруза Гасанлі, a member of the "Народний фронт" party, who can be extradited to Azerbaijan.
"У нас є інший кейс. Кейс азербайджанця, члена партії "Народний фронт" Бахруза Гасанлі, якого хочуть передати Азербайджану. Його там теж чекає тривалий термін ув'язнення, катування",
He noted that in this case, the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office and the courts, in his opinion, do not sufficiently investigate the risks that may threaten Hasanli if he returns to Azerbaijan. Захаров reported that human rights defenders continue to monitor the extradition process.
Справа Хакімова: What we know
From 2 April 2026 According to the decision of the Galician District Court of Lviv at the request of the State Migration Service, Khakimov was in the temporary stay of foreigners. Due to violation of migration legislation (illegal entry and lack of official refugee status), the Migration Service of Ukraine considered the issue of his extradition to Russia. A copy of the court decision was then published by the MP Володимир АрGiev, who noted that the formal reason for the expulsion could be the expiration of the residence permit.
