"Економічне зростання можливе лише з миром": the head of ЄЦБ Lagarde gave a message to Putin at the meeting of МВФ

The conversation took place 17 October in Bangkok at a closed meeting before the plenary meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee, the main advisory body of МВФ. Lagarde appealed to the Russian Minister of Finance Антона Силуанова and asked to tell dictator Putin that the war was hindering prosperity.

Siluanov listened to simultaneous interpretation in headphones, so he understood what was said, the source noted.

According to Bloomberg, this is a change of approach: since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of 2022, Lagarde, along with other European officials, left the previous plenary meetings of the committee in protest against the Russian Minister of Finance.

In this speech, she also highlighted the importance of healthy public finances and called the fiscal sustainability of "ключовим якорем" economic stability.

ЄЦБ declined to comment on the conversation with Siluanov.
