He said this in an interview with Yle.

According to Orpo, such a step is necessary to strengthen European security and counter threats from Russia.

Orpo explained his position with concerns about the possible sabotage activities of Russia on the territory of European countries.

Finland itself stopped issuing tourist visas to Russians and closed entry for Russian tourists back in September 2022.

Recall that 5 September German MP Родеріх Кізеветтер urged the countries ЄС to reduce the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens to «абсолютного мінімуму». He explained this by the risks of espionage and sabotage, and a number of countries, including Finland, Poland and the Baltic States, already have stricter national restrictions.
