The decision was made by the same judge, who in September refused to send Georgesca to СІЗО at the request of the Office of Organized Crime and Terrorism Investigation (DIICOT), Digi24 writes.

Prosecutors then appealed the decision, and the Bucharest Court of Appeal sided with them, sending the politician into custody with 29 September.

The current ruling on house arrest is also not final and does not mean the immediate release of Georgescu. Prosecutors DIICOT and the accused himself have the right to appeal the decision, so the final decision will again be on the Bucharest Court of Appeal. Prosecutors have already announced their intention to appeal.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officers continue computer and technical expertise of electronic devices seized during searches at the house of the Georgescu family. The policy is suspected of fraud on 1,1 million euros. According to the investigation, he convinced the businessman Развана Леу enter into an agreement on the trade in precious metals and obtain credit for 6 million euros.

For the loan, the businessman listed 1 million euros guarantees, of which 100 thousand euros were to go to finance the presidential campaign of Georgescu. Subsequently, the victim was persuaded to transfer another 100 thousand euros for the promise to increase the loan to 15 million euros. As a result, the businessman did not receive a loan.

  • Georgescu, by the way, is a figure in other criminal proceedings.
  • Last year, he was officially accused of attempting a coup. Prosecutors accused the politician and another 21 suspect of plotting to undermine the democratic system after the Constitutional Court in December declared his victory in the presidential election invalid. If he is found guilty, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
  • Earlier it became known that Georgescu in Romania will be tried for propaganda of fascism
