Ukrainian director Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi is working on the English-language film "Radioactive" featuring British actor Clive Owen

He said this in an interview with Espreso.

The film will be connected to Chornobyl, but will not directly tell about the catastrophe of 1986 - the director is more interested in its consequences and the people connected to the atomic industry.

Slaboshpytskyi said that Clive Owen has already read the script and agreed to take part in the film after watching his well-known picture "The Tribe", which received over half a hundred awards worldwide.

"We talked with Owen. He read the script and agreed. Owen announced this first, although we kept silent like partisans," the director said.

According to him, the team is currently preparing for production and choosing locations. At the same time, Slaboshpytskyi is not yet ready to reveal more details about the future picture.

"This is not a film about the Chornobyl catastrophe of 1986 - it seems everything has already been filmed about it. I am more interested, so to speak, in the consequences," Slaboshpytskyi noted.

He said that he first got into the Chornobyl zone back in 1995, and was there last about five or six years ago. Previously, the director was also developing a project called "Luxembourg".

Slaboshpytskyi is attracted by the very specifics of the exclusion zone, which he describes almost as a separate world.

"It is the site of a nuclear catastrophe, a full atmosphere of apocalypse: Prypiat overgrown with forest, and nearby new buildings, nuclear waste processing plants, the sarcophagus... Generations of liquidators changed - the history of a state within a state changed," the director said.

According to him, "Radioactive" will be a story specifically about the people of the atomic industry, and the events of the film will take place in Chornobyl.
