At the same time, 1 January 2027 Трамп will likely retain significant opportunities to influence Ukraine’s support decisions

On the air of Espreso in the program "Тепер Головне" said the Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Валерій Чалий.

According to him, during the first presidential term, Трамп was still trying to listen to professional advisers, but during the second he decided to pay much less attention to their recommendations.

"Він про Україну не думає взагалі, бо має свої цілі й обґрунтовує їх інтересами американського народу", said Chaly.

The diplomat also explained why, in his opinion, Трамп began to broadcast Russian narratives. He suggested that the American president does not trust even his own environment, instead he can listen to dictator Putin.

"Путін, як відомо, наполягав, щоб Україна припинила бити по НПЗ, і Трамп так і зробив, як попросив Путін: Україна має припинити бити по НПЗ", said Chaly.

He stressed that Трамп is guided primarily by the logic of interests, and not by international norms and rules of warfare.

"Він живе в парадигмі суто інтересів, у тому світі, що був у X столітті, коли країнам дозволялося агресивно окуповувати чужі території. Йому так простіше, у його системі координат це простіший світ", the ambassador explained.

At the same time, Chaly noted that the capabilities of the American president are not unlimited. According to him, США still has control mechanisms that do not allow the head of state to unilaterally stop all processes related to support for Ukraine.

In particular, we are talking about the work of the intelligence community and the Pentagon, as well as about contracts for the sale of American weapons, which are the interests of the military-industrial complex США.

"Він не може просто так припинити постачання нам деяких розвідданих. Не може. Це робиться не лише ним, тут є і розвідувальна спільнота, і Пентагон", the diplomat said.

Chaly also drew attention to the fact that Трамп criticized the agreement, which he himself signed in 2018. According to the ambassador, this shows how much the American president has changed compared to the first term.

Separately, the diplomat assessed the prospects for impeachment. According to his forecast, until 1 January 2027, the political configuration in США will most likely remain as it is now. Трамп is probably trying to take advantage of the time while it has the opportunity to promote budget decisions in the House of Representatives and its candidates in the Senate.

"Імовірність початку процедури імпічменту становить 85%. Вперше за ці роки з'явилася ймовірність, що імпічмент завершиться відстороненням президента США від влади. Якщо Сенат буде за демократами, то велика ймовірність, що Трамп не залишиться на посаді до кінця терміну", said Chaly.

At the same time, he warned that even in such a scenario, Трамп could influence decisions on assistance to Ukraine before the end of presidential powers.

"Тому нам доведеться мати з ним справу, хочемо ми цього чи ні", the diplomat concluded.
