Трамп did not give any details about which companies will be involved, where intelligence will be conducted or when operations will begin.
“Масштабна розвідка нафти, газу та корисних копалин готується до початку в нашій новій та прекрасній Гренландії!”, wrote Трамп on its Truth Social platform.
He added that, according to experts, Greenland contains some of the world's largest deposits of easily accessible oil.
Greenland is thought to have significant untapped oil reserves, but their commercial viability remains uncertain due to high production costs, harsh Arctic conditions and environmental constraints.
There is no commercial oil production in Greenland.
The island has significant mineral resources, particularly rare earth elements used in electronics, renewable energy technologies, and military technology.
In the summer, it was reported that one of the American oil companies is preparing to conduct work in a remote area of Східної Гренландії. This caused concern among local residents and authorities.
- In September, США President Дональд Трамп, Prime Minister Данії Метте Фредеріксен and Prime Minister Гренландії Єнс-Фредерік Нільсен signed a security agreement after a long period of controversy surrounding the future of the Arctic island.
- The document enshrines Greenland as part of the Danish Kingdom and provides for the expansion of the American military presence. Under the terms of the treaty, the States received permission to create two new military bases - near Narsarsuaq in Південній Гренландії and in Mesterswig in the east of the island.
