ЄС extended sanctions against Russian propagandists and other involved in hybrid attacks for a year

Рада Європейського Союзу extends for another year individual sanctions against individuals and organizations responsible for Russia’s destabilizing and hybrid actions abroad

Limits will apply to at least 9 October 2027 year.

The decision was taken against the background of long hybrid campaigns that ЄС associates with Russia. These include, in particular, foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI), as well as other actions against ЄС, its member states and partners.

Who are the sanctions

The sanctions mechanism was created by 8 October 2024. Restrictive measures within this regime apply to 80 individuals and 20 legal entities. The sanctions list includes, in particular, representatives of Russian media, propagandists, bloggers and other persons whom ЄС associates with information and other destabilizing operations.

For sub-sanctioned persons and organizations, assets are frozen. Citizens and companies of ЄС are prohibited from providing them with funds, financial assets or economic resources.

For individuals, there is also a ban on entry to ЄС countries or transit through the Union territory.

ЄС strengthens counteraction to hybrid threats

The European sanctions mechanism covers a wide range of potential hybrid threats, including interference in electoral processes and democratic institutions, sabotage of economic activities and critical infrastructure, disinformation campaigns, cyber operations and other destabilizing actions.

In June 2026 The European Council condemned the recent hybrid attacks against ЄС and its Member States, and called for increased resilience and preparedness to such threats, as well as protection of critical infrastructure.
