He said this in an interview with ABC News, commenting on US President Donald Trump's call to elect a new Ukrainian leader.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the decision of who to elect as president belongs exclusively to the Ukrainian people. At the same time, he acknowledged that organizing a vote during wartime is difficult due to security risks and current legislative restrictions.

"If President Trump really wants elections to be held, tell Putin: give us two months of a complete ceasefire, and we will hold the elections. And we, of course, will be ready to accept any choice of our people - the Ukrainian people," the head of state stated.

According to Zelenskyy, holding elections requires not only an end to hostilities, but also proper security conditions that will give people the opportunity to vote.

The Ukrainian president's statement came after Donald Trump publicly called on Ukraine to elect a new leader. The American president claimed that Zelenskyy allegedly had opportunities to negotiate an end to the war, but did not use them.

Reacting to Trump's statement, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has the support of the Ukrainian people.
